My grandfather (Dad’s side, not the one with the Camaro and other cars) gave this to me a few years back. It’s from 1897- the 1940s since it’s pre-Oldsmobile.

I wonder if this could be from an industrial application rather than a car. Olds made engines for many uses:
Judging by the font and style, I would be surprised if that piece was newer than 1920, it’s an oldie.

I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s definitely 20s or older. I just wish I knew more about it.

I’d contact the Oldsmobile Club of America. Even if they aren’t able to tell you exactly what it’s from they may be able to narrow down the age based on the style of plate and the lettering.
It may very well be from an industrial motor, but the plate style may have been shared with cars of the era.
